Dani Pedrosa is recovering

Dani Pedrosa has had successful surgery on a multiple fracture to his left collarbone. Pedrosa, who had a titanium plate inserted during the procedure in Barcelona, is second in the world championship behind Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo and the only rider who can catch his Spanish compatriot with five races remaining.

However, the injury to his collarbone and a sprained ankle mean his chances of reeling in Lorenzo are minimal and the earliest he is expected to return is at the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks time. Therefore, it is confirmed that he will out in action in the Malaysian MotoGP.

"The operation went very well," surgeon Xavier Mir said in a statement released by Honda.

"The rider is recently out of surgery and I think we must wait at least 48 hours, after which time, if all goes well, we may begin rehabilitation," he added. "At this time, it's not possible to give precise dates for recovery."

The current position for MotoGP.
